Description:
This noncredit certificate program will help give students the skills and knowledge needed to become a Phlebotomy Technician. You will be drawing blood from patients, caring for lab equipment, caring for patients while in your lab or drawing area, shipping samples, and etc. This course will provide skill development in the performance of a variety of blood collection methods, teaching you proper techniques, including standard precautions and HIPAA training This short-term certificate course is approximately 64-70 hours in length. The course breakdown is 54 Hours of Lecture/classroom learning and practicing and working in the Lab. The remaining hours are spent in your clinical rotation until you have successfully completed 100 sticks. This training will educate students in an entry level position, and feel competent, and skilled to begin your career in the laboratory profession. Pre Reqs: Must be 18 years of age, Successful Completion of a Criminal Background Check, and DHS Iowa Abuse Registry Check, Completion of Required Health/Physical and Immunization Forms including Seasonal Flu and COVID Vaccines Class WILL MEET during Spring Break March 17 thru March 21, 2025 Clinical Dates: April 14 thru April 23, 2025 (80 successful sticks)

All participants must:

  • attend a Health Information Session

  • complete my Background and DHS registry check

  • complete Health/Immunization paperwork. 

The Information Session will be held on February 5th, 5pm, DMACC Ankeny, Building 24 Room 111.
