Description:
This noncredit certificate program is a Web-Blended course and will help give students the skills and knowledge needed to become a Phlebotomy Technician. You will be drawing blood from patients, caring for lab equipment, caring for patients while in your lab or drawing area, shipping samples, and etc. This course will provide skill development in the performance of a variety of blood collection methods, teaching you proper techniques, including standard precautions and HIPAA training This short-term certificate course is approximately 64-70 hours in length. The course breakdown is approximately 34 Hours of combined Online and face to face learning. The remaining 30-40 hours are spent in your clinical rotation until you have successfully completed a minimum of 30 hours and a minimum of 80 successful sticks. This training will educate students in an entry level position to feel competent and skilled to begin a career in the laboratory profession. Pre Reqs: Must be 18 years of age, Must attend In-Person Health Information Session. Successful Completion of a Criminal Background Check, and DHS Iowa Abuse Registry Check, Completion of Required Health/Physical and Immunization Forms including Seasonal Flu and COVID Vaccines. The first two weeks of the course is completed online independently upon successful completion, the participant can move to the Lab Skills portion, no absences are allowed during this skills portion. Once online and lab are completed, the participant will move to the clinical portion to finish the course. Dates: 10/20-11/2 Online Course, completed Independently, 11/4-12/2 Face to Face Lab, Southridge Rm 19 5pm-8pm (Tues/Thurs) 12/3-12/18 Clinical Completion
