Description:
This course looks at the rise of the city states of Northern Italy following the collapse of the Roman Empire in 500. These cities from 750 to at least 1750 were the drivers of modern political, economic and cultural development for Europe and the world. No place else in the world has as many beautiful cities as does Northern Italy. Venice, Sienna, Florence, Milan, Bologna, Pisa, Genoa are the principal cities to be surveyed.
