Description:
This is a 60-hour course consisting of 48 classroom hours and 12 clinical hours. This course also includes the CORE Training of the Prepare to Care curriculum. The purpose of the course is to prepare people to safely administer non parenteral medications in facilities licensed by DIA. The emphasis is on safe administration and students are provided with classroom, laboratory and clinical experiences. Pre-Requisites: In order to take this course the student must be drug free, and working in an agency /facility licensed by DIA. If employed in a certified nursing facility all students must be employed for at least 6 months in their current sponsoring facility. The facility sponsors the student by allowing them to complete the clinical experience and must fill out a facility sponsor form. If a student is employed in a residential or related type of agency licensed by the DIA all students must still fill out and complete the Facility sponsorship/recommendation form. Agencies/facilities licensed by DIA are: Long Term Care (LTC), Assisted Living Programs (ALP), Residential Care Facilities (RCF), Intermediate Care Facilities (ICF), Intermediate Care Facilities for the Intellectually Disabled (ICF-10) Psychiatric Medical Institutions for Children (PMIC) Psychiatric Medical Institutions (PMI). Class dates: June 1 thru July 15; July 29; August 3. Review Date August 31. Test Date September 2. Class hours 4:30-7:30. FIRST TWO DAYS OF CLASS ARE MANDATORY. ANY ABSENCE OF THOSE TWO CORE TEACHING DAYS WILL RESULT IN A DROP WITH NO REFUND OF THE COURSE. This is a web blended course including face to face lab and practice classes in July to demonstrate the skills required to pass medications safely to the persons served This course will be taught through Zoom. You may or may not have heard of Zoom, but it is a virtual classroom we can offer online. Zoom allows for you to take this course from your home or work or wherever you are. Each class is held at its stated time, and your instructor will teach every class session live to you and all of your classmates. The difference is you will all be on some sort of computer/laptop/IPad, Chromebook, tablet, phone etc. watching and listening and learning. Here are some things YOU must have in order for this to work: ? You need an internet ready device with a webcam or camera. (Laptop/smartphone/Chromebook, tablet, IPad, etc) With a Zoom Meeting/Class you can see your instructor, and all of your classmates the entire class, just as though you are in a classroom ? You need to have a reliable and constant internet connection ? Headphones are optional but might be a great idea to help you stay focused and listen to the instructor. ? You will also need a current and functioning E-mail address Commitment! You must be committed and dedicate the time to be as successful as you can in learning this way. You will still learn all of the important information and the exact same information as you would in the face to face classroom. It is the exact same class and curriculum only done in this ?Live? virtual environment called Zoom! Online learning can be amazing and it can be challenging as well. But with your weekly commitment to logging in and joining this class we will help give you the tools to be successful!
