The collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of communism was a rare event in human history. Administrations and governments come and go, but there are no precedents for a comprehensive political, economic and societal system to disappear quickly and with little warning after 50 years of existence. In this class we will explain the Soviet system collapsed, its timing and the major conflicts and change it brought in the former Soviet states and the continuing impacts upon Europe, the United States and the world.
