What is the Primary Course Goal:

• The primary goal of the PN/LPN Refresher course is to assist the inactive licensed practical nurse to return to nursing practice.
• The successful candidate will complete through the review and update of foundational nursing knowledge, and demonstrate through clinical practice basic, nursing skills that will aide in building confidence and competency to return to practice safely in order to return to full licensure from the IBON.

Who is Eligible/Registration Requirements:

• Any PN/LPN who graduated from an accredited school of nursing and has previously held an PN/LPN License.
• This course is NOT an NCLEX review course, or a substitute for taking the IBON licensing exam.  A nurse must have held a nursing license previously to take this class
• A current and practicing PN/LPN who is NOT inactive and desires to update their nursing knowledge and earn Nursing Contact Hours may also take this course.

How Do I Complete this Course:

·       This course as required by IBON is 160-hours. It is set up as a Web-Blended Course.  This means that you will complete the course both online and complete a face-to-face component.

·       The course is basically self-paced and can be completed over approximately a 6-month period but can be completed sooner depending how quickly each student finishes each section. 

o   The first section is 100% online and self-paced. All work is completed through the DMACC Learning Management System, CANVAS. Minimum grade needed to pass is 78%

o   Your Instructor will notify the IBON once the first section is done, so that you may be granted your provisional license to complete the clinical in the second section.

o   The second section is the required Clinical Preceptorship. This is completed face-to-face in a long-term care facility. Your instructor will be working with you, along the way, to guide you and assist you in setting this up and completing all necessary paperwork.

o   Your instructor after successful completion will notify the IBON that you are now ready for license reactivation or to return to full licensure.

Course Requirements:

• Students will need access to regular and reliable internet
• Students will need access to a computer, laptop, Chromebook, etc.,
• Students will also be completing Health and Immunization Paperwork as they begin the course and prior to starting the Clinical Preceptorship, as well as a Criminal Background check, this is completed as a routine part of the course, even if you have already completed it for IBON or any other entity
• Students will also be completing the required training needed by the facilities they are precepting at, including things like HIPAA, Bloodborne Pathogens, HHS Mandatory Adult and Child Abuse Trainings, etc., prior to starting the Clinical Preceptorship as well.  

Continuing Education Hours/Nursing Contact Hours:

• The course has been approved for 80 Nursing Contact Hours, the Nurse Refresher is a web-blended course. It consists of online learning and finishes with a clinical preceptorship.
