This is a web-blended course (online, in-person). This course is for Level One expanded function dental assistants, certified in Applying Bonding Systems who want to pursue certification in the Level Two expanded function skill of Placement of Dental Sealants. • Didactic course will be provided online. Topics include tooth morphology, indications for sealants, tooth/patient selection, patient education, management techniques, types of sealants and application techniques and protocols, infection control and recordkeeping. • During in-person lab training, participants will practice tooth preparation, moisture control, application of the correct amount of sealant, and bite articulation during lab training. • After clinical proficiency is established, the participant will apply dental sealants in the office of their supervising dentist under observational supervision. Prerequisites: • After eligibility is confirmed, Impact Dental Training will send the link to the online didactic course. Enrollment, completion and certification in the online Placement of Dental Sealants didactic training must be submitted at least 2 weeks prior to the start of the lab training. • Meeting course requirements is the responsibility of the participant. • Participants should complete Applying Bonding Systems certification prior to the in-person lab date. • Failure to meet the course requirements can result in the participant not being allowed to participate in the lab training and all course fees will be forfeited. Required Materials: Access to a computer with Google Chrome or another browser will be required for the online portion of the course. No textbook is required. Course materials will be provided with the didactic portion. Each participant must bring 4 sterilized, extracted posterior teeth set in plaster within a dixie cup for use during the lab. Scrubs and/or lab coat, closed toe shoes, and personal eye protection will be provided by each dental assistant and are required to participate in the lab training. (these items will not be provided) Face to face Lab day in Ankeny, 5/16/25, Ankeny campus, Building 9 Room 2D Students must complete the clinical portion within 60-days of the lab day. If not completed the student will need to request a 30-day extension to successfully complete. |
