The Midwest Death Investigation Course provides essential training for individuals new to medicolegal death investigation and individuals already in the field interested in continuing education. The curriculum is designed to provide the basic training and knowledge needed to assist medical examiners in scene investigations and gathering information critical for accurately determining cause and manner of death. The basic track instruction combines didactic lectures from experts in the fields of forensic pathology, medicolegal death investigation, and law with practical exercises of working up and documenting mock scenes. The master's track combines introductory/refresher lectures on essential topics with more advanced lecture topics. The curriculum provides training that is immediately applicable to work performed every day in medical examiner offices and knowledge that is helpful for preparation for the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigator (ABMDI) registry exam. The training is also valuable to physicians, nurses, law enforcement officers, attorneys, and emergency medical personnel. Nursing contact hours pending. Continuing medical education pending. American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators continuing education hours pending.
