Description:
ISU and DMACC collaborated based on input from IT Partners to offer customized, introductory 1/2 day Cybersecurity training sessions. This is an introductory course for the basics of an Intrusion Detection System/Intrusion Prevention System aimed at students with very little background in network security. The course will cover a high level view of basic networking concepts. Students will learn the difference between an IDS and an IPS. They will be tasked with installing and configuring their own IPS instance using the open source program Snort. This will include learning how to install and enable filters. There will also be some coverage of the syntax for the filters used by Snort. Students will learn various terminology related to using an IDS/IPS. Students will learn administrative skills in respect to using an IDS/IPS including reviewing flagged traffic, removing false positives and disabling rules for blocked hosts. Last, students will learn how to monitor encrypted traffic.
